Best-known for his roles in high school drama "Popular" (The WB, 1999-2001), award-winning biopic "Milk" (2008) and Aziz Ansari vehicle "Master of None" (Netflix, 2015-), Taiwanese-American actor Kelvin Yu also served as staff writer and producer of animated hit "Bob's Burgers" (Fox, 2011-). Born in Los Angeles in 1979, Yu studied Film, Theater and Television at the University of California and made his on-screen debut with the recurring role of student Freddy Gong in Ryan Murphy's first TV venture, "Popular" (The WB, 1999-2001). One-off appearances in "Frasier" (NBC, 1993-2004), "ER" (NBC, 1994-2009), "Gilmore Girls" (The WB, 2005-07) and "The Shield" (FX, 2002-08) then followed before Yu landed his first film role, playing one of six students from different backgrounds forced to work together in "The Utopian Society" (2003). After playing video gamer Kane in stoner comedy "Grandma's Boy" (2006), Yu enjoyed a two-episode stint as Jordan's assistant Kevin in Aaron Sorkin's comedy-drama "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" (NBC, 2006-07), appeared as partygoer Clark in sci-fi disaster "Cloverfield" (2008) and added "The Closer" (TNT, 2005-2012), "Burn Notice" (USA Network, 2007-2013) and "The Ghost Whisperer" (CBS, 2005-2010) to his list of guest spots. Yu then portrayed Harvey Milk's campaign staffer Michael Wong in the acclaimed biopic of the politician and gay rights activist, "Milk" (2008), played a medical technician in the "Star Trek" (2009) reboot and landed one-off roles in "Hawaii Five-O" (CBS, 2010-), "Torchwood" (BBC1, 2006-2011) and "Dallas" (TNT, 2012-2014) before joining the writing and production team of "Bob's Burgers" (Fox, 2011-). Yu contributed to dozens of episodes of the animated sitcom while still pursuing his acting career, most notably starring as Dev's friend Brian in Aziz Ansari's semi-autobiographical comedy "Master of None" (Netflix, 2015-).
