The son of legendary director Arthur Penn, Matthew Penn worked as a producer and television director. His first credits in the film industry were as a production assistant on two of his father's films,"The Missouri Breaks"and"Four Friends," before he earned his first directing credit on the short-lived series "New York News" in 1995. During the rest of the decade he worked on several other series, including three episodes of the detective drama "New York Undercover," and a 1999 episode of the hit mob series "The Sopranos." He also directed eight episodes of cop drama"NYPD Blue," and served as producer for the first time on the 2001 crime show "Big Apple." This led to a long-term role on the high-profile procedural drama "Law & Order," where he directed over 20 shows, and also served as executive producer on over 90 episodes between 2003 and 2007. TV shows he worked on since leaving "Law & Order" include "The Closer"; "Royal Pains"; and multiple episodes of "Damages," a courtroom drama starring Glenn Close.
