With his signature shock of silver hair and unwavering pragmatism, Max Joseph made a name for himself as the cohost of the highly popular reality series "Catfish: The TV Show" (MTV, 2012-), alongside his more romantic and idealistic counterpart, Nev Schulman. Born on January 16, 1982, Max Joseph was raised in New York City. He studied film at Brown University and graduated in 2004. Joseph logged a number of years as a documentary filmmaker whose work often showed a social consciousness: in 2008 alone, he made five documentaries, including "State of the Economy: Oil Addiction" (2008), "Good: Education" (2008), and "Good: Atomic Alert" (2008). In 2012, Joseph joined his old friend and fellow New York City native, Nev Schulman, as host of the reality show "Catfish: The TV Show" (MTV, 2012-), which was based on the documentary "Catfish" (2010), co-directed by Nev's brother Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, and concerned Nev's online romance with a woman from Michigan who turned out to be a fraud. The MTV show saw the pair offering help to people who were in similar situations to Nev's, and was an instant hit. Joseph was forced to miss five episodes of the fourth season when he got the chance to direct his first feature film, "We Are Your Friends" (2015), a Zac Efron romantic drama set in the world of electronic music. The film flopped at the box office, and Joseph rejoined Schulman in helping naive lovebirds expose the people who were leading them on over the internet. "Catfish: The TV Show" began its sixth season in March 2017.
