Popular revue performer and stage actor who became one of France's most beloved film stars of the 1930s. Raimu played the ebullient cafe proprietor, Cesar, in the 1929 stage production of Marcel Pagnol's "Marius" and is best known for his screen version of the same role, in Pagnol's "Marseilles" trilogy ("Marius" 1931, "Fanny" 1932, "Cesar" 1936).
