Rick James
Born February 1, 1948, James Ambrose Johnson Jr., better known by his stage name Rick James was a singer, songwriter, and producer known for his blend of funk, soul, and rock music. He rose to prominence in the late 1970s with hits like "You and I" and the iconic "Super Freak." His 1981 album "Street Songs" became a defining record of the era. James also contributed to producing and writing songs for other artists, including Teena Marie and The Temptations. In the early 2000s, James made guest appearances on shows like "Chappelle's Show" (Comedy Central, 2003-2006), which revived his popularity with a new generation. Despite personal struggles and legal issues, James' influence on funk and pop culture remains undeniable. He passed away on August 6, 2004, at the age of 56.
