Robert Glasper
Musician, producer, songwriter and musical arranger Robert Glasper was born in Houston, Texas. He was heavily influenced by his mother, a professional blues and jazz singer. His first performances happened in churches and he went on to take part in the Vail Jazz Workshop in 1997. Parallel to his emerging jazz career, he associated with several artists in hip hop and R&B as well, playing alongside famous neo-soul singer Bilal. Glasper released his first album, "Mood" (2002), collaborating with several different artists and started to experiment more and establish his fusion style in his third studio album, "In My Element" (2007). His next release, "Double-Booked" (2009), featured his group The Robert Glasper Experiment and Bilal, and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. "Black Radio" (2012) was a commercial and critical success, earning him the 2013 Grammy for best R&B album. Its follow-up "Black Radio 2" (2013) also received an album nomination, and earned Glasper the Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance. He was also nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Album for "Covered" (2015) and served as producer, composer and arranger for the Miles Davis' biopic "Miles Ahead" (2015). Glasper went on to play on the Grammy-winning track "These Walls" (2016) by Kendrick Lamar and became the host for the Blue Note Cruise. In 2018, he formed the groups R+R=Now and August Greene, once again collaborating with important black musicians, celebrating the legacy and the future of black music. He went on to produce more soundtracks for the big screen and television, notably the ending theme song for "Bookmarks" (Netflix, 2020- ). In 2022, Glasper announced the third installment in his Black Radio series.
