Roxie Roker
Roxie Roker was an actress who had a successful Hollywood career. In 1967, she hosted "Inside Bedford-Stuyvesant." In 1974, she appeared in the Broadway production of "The River Niger." She had an early role on the television special "Change at 125th Street" (CBS, 1973-74). She also appeared in the TV movie "Billy: Portrait of a Street Kid" (CBS, 1977-78). She also was featured in the miniseries "Roots" (1976-78). Roker began her entertainment career acting in films like the Donald Albee drama "The Bermuda Triangle" (1978). Several more television roles followed in the eighties, including stints on "Murder, She Wrote" (CBS, 1984-1996) and "A Different World" (NBC, 1987-1993). Her work around this time also included a part on the TV movie "Making of a Male Model" (ABC, 1983-84). She also appeared in the TV special "The Celebrity and the Arcade Kid" (ABC, 1983-84). Additionally, she appeared on the television special "The Day My Kid Went Punk" (ABC, 1987-88). She held additional roles in television including a part on "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper" (ABC, 1992-97). Roker last worked on "Cosmic Slop" (HBO, 1994-95). Roker was married to Sy Kravitz. The couple had one son, Lenny Kravitz. Roker passed away in December 1995 at the age of 66.
