While remaining largely unknown in America, Sophie Desmarais built a stable career appearing in various high-profile films in her native Canada. She landed her very first role while still in her teens, appearing alongside such Hollywood heavyweights as Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz in the period film "Head in the Clouds" (2004) and followed that up with small parts in the award-winning films "Le grand depart" (2008) and "Polytechnique" (2009). By 2013 Desmarais was nabbing prominent roles in such pensive dramas as "Le démantèlement" and "Sarah Prefers to Run," thus further establishing the young actress as one of Canada's most visible film stars.
