A member of the cult sketch comedy team "The League of Gentlemen," Steve Pemberton is a fringe theater performer who also writes and plays dramatic roles. The Theatre Arts graduate from Bretton Hall College in West Yorkshire was a founding member of 606 Theatre group and has produced and directed theatrical productions. His first national exposure was in 1999 when "The League of Gentlemen" debuted as a series and its irreverent boundary-breaking comedy became an instant hit. Like his three fellow members, Pemberton writes as well as performs the material that first gained them attention at the famed Edinburgh Fringe Festival. After the show ended in 2002, he had several small film and TV roles before obtaining a recurring part on the comedic whodunit "Blackpool." He had a co-starring role in Rowan Atkinson's feature-length farce "Mr. Bean's Vacation" in 2007 before reuniting with his former writing partner Reece Shearsmith to develop the offbeat comedy "Psychoville," for which they served as both writers and performers. In 2009, he starred in the crime drama "Whitechapel," a contemporary Jack the Ripper mystery series.
