Brian W Difficult subject expertly portrayed in a dramatic but empathetic way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Good performances and an excellent soundtrack don't always make up for the dreary televisual direction and inconsistent scripting from Savage who draws on Soap Opera-like plotting and predictable characters to create this rough modernisation of the Bards tale. Samina Awan and Nichola Burley are convincingly spiky female leads though, as the most well rounded characters in the film - two girlfriends caught on opposite sides of the Race divide, while, Mohammed Rafique is excellent as the hypocritical older brother, who's life capitulates dramatically, in this overly familiar, modern take on the Romeo + Juliet story. Presumably this feels tense and immediate on the small screen, however ultimately, it doesn't quite match up to it's cinematic contemporaries. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member For a film that skipped by the cinema that is populated with mostly unknown actors I thought this was brilliant. The direction and acting style reminded me of a Shane Meadows film which is a big compliment as he is my favourite director. Powerful, well acted and the film has a brilliant soundtrack :o) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I just watch it to see naseema played by Samina Awan- she is absolutely stunning! she needs to come to the US! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Audience Member I would say, average movie on popular subject. Not deep enough, not convincing enough, just... NOT ENOUGH!!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member The main excitment for me watching this was the fact it was filmed so close to home for me - the scenes int eh swimming baths in particular made me squeal. But that said it is a sad fact that along with seeing some of the places I've grown up with I also saw some of the more narrow minded views that can be found in small industrial towns. The acting was ok on the most part, but some performances were boardering on awful. The main stars did do a good job though. I also liked the love story, two young people who were attracted to each other despite the danger - but then ending was a little too over sentimental.
