Robin Oliver Sydney Morning Herald If it's scruff we're after, then production designer Melinda Doring obliges with compellingly old-fashioned interiors, occupied by gnarled narks and retirees. Feb 28, 2018 Full Review Leslie Felperin Variety Given that underwhelming police thriller The Silence is technically a made-for-TV movie, it might not be counted against helmer Cate Shortland as yet another example of the dreaded disappointing sophomore follow-up. Sep 25, 2006 Full Review Globe and Mail Stylish, sexy and deeply emotionally resonant. joe m "The Silence" is about a detective re-assigned for killing in the line of duty. His new job is curator of the police museum. There he becomes obsessed with a woman in an old crime scene photo and proceeds to investigate what happened to her. The movie starts out engaging, but then it quickly turns into a muddled mess. Should you bother to see it all the way through, "The Silence" may will leave you scratching your head and saying WTF. Even for those plot elements that you can make some sense out of, I found it annoying how none of them followed any train of logic. Instead, all of the clues are conveniently dropped in to place to wrap up the story. Give it a pass. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member ALMOST PAINFUL... to sit through this movie without falling asleep. The pieces do fall into place but they are so few and obscure that the storyline never really takes off. It's like sitting in an airplane waiting circling the runway for an hour and a half only to be told when the movie is over that one can now get off the plane Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It's not a bad film, but it is less than enthralling. I found the plot to be an interesting concept, but the execution of the story lacked spark and it was not easy staying focused on the film. It's well enough made, just bland. In RT twice. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This Australian TV drama is pretty good. They should have made it as a movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Roxburgh gives a fantastic performance, but the pseudo-arty direction didn't deliver the tension the story needed. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Worth watching, but not the best movie I've seen but worth the watch. Complex. Another Toronto Film Festival viewing.
