I'm no expert, but this film presents a different kind of realism--a realism that is a kind of raw, emotional observation from the perspective of a fly on the wall. To be allowed to see the couple's inner world, and especially Mattie's (played by the talented Greta Gerwig), is a rare glimpse into what is usually hidden.

*yawn* Another mumblecore film; the proliferation of inexpensive digital filmmaking has brought us many. While this one is better than a few, it's not by much. It lacks an interesting plot, intelligent dialogue, and smooth tripod shots; difficult to find in these kind of films.
