Herbert N visually beautiful, but boring. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Matt E I don’t get the audience reviews at all this is one of the best sci-fi movies of the last twenty years. It has its flaws but the concepts and visuals are stunning. I saw the original Tron when it released thinking it wasn’t that great (I was kind of hoping but into code and thought the tron landscape was less sophisticated than the games I was writing - ldik…) but Legacy… even as a grown up I felt it blew the original away. Visuals are beautiful , the score is so well written, I even loved the slightly wooden zen style acting - it all fits together! One of my most rewatched sci-fi movies. Love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/05/25 Full Review Jairo E. Simply perfect and beautiful Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/25 Full Review Kyle C Tron: Legacy kicks off with some style—the Disney intro and Daft Punk’s pulsing score immediately set a sleek tone. The film has energy, flashy visuals, and plenty of callbacks for fans of the original. The neon-soaked Grid and thrilling light-cycle sequences are genuinely striking, and seeing Sam ride around as a biker in the real world is a nice nod. I even appreciated that the terminal commands are mostly accurate. But the problems start almost instantly. The digital de-aging of Jeff Bridges is horrendous, veering deep into Polar Express uncanny-valley territory, and for some reason they made this monstrosity a central character. The nostalgia factor is pushed so hard that the movie feels less like a sequel and more like an awkward, self-serious rehash. Every beat is aggressively predictable: “This can’t be good,” “You gotta be kidding me”. The dialogue is a cliché parade. The story itself falls apart with any thought. The Grid could have been a playground for wild sci-fi ideas, but instead it’s just a blocky, generic world with food, beds, and lamps for no discernible reason. The rules are inconsistent, lore is dropped casually, and the stakes are frustratingly vague. What exactly happens if Clu makes it to the real world? He’s just... some guy, right? The movie tries to justify it late in the game, but any potential tension is already lost. Worse, it completely mishandles its characters. Kevin is rewritten as some odd perfectionist to justify the plot, and Tron himself barely even shows up in a movie with his name on it. Meanwhile, the female programs are designed purely as sexy side characters, with Olivia Wilde’s Quorra slotting neatly into the obligatory love interest role. Tron: Legacy takes itself way too seriously while offering nothing original. It strips away the goofy fun charm of the first film and replaces it with an overly polished, hollow blockbuster that feels (ironically) like it was written by a bad AI. That said, the visuals and soundtrack are genuinely impressive, giving the movie some fleeting moments of excitement and style. There are definitely good stories to be told in this universe, but this isn’t one of them. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/01/25 Full Review Pedro Henrique C Tron: Legacy (2010) is an adventure that gets the visuals and special effects right, which are beautiful, but it gets it wrong with the slow and drawn-out script. The cast isn't bad, it's just weak. I think the story doesn't develop each character very well. However, I thought it was fun to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review Ash P It's the legacy sequel that was released in the 2010s, Tron: Legacy. Which is kinda funny as it has "legacy" in the title. Like I haven't seen the original and enjoyed it for what it was after seeing it for the first time, I have enjoyed this movie after seeing it for the first time. Does it have some similarities? Yes. Does it improve in some areas? Yes. Is it way better than the original? I wouldn't go that far as say this is up there like some ten out of ten movie. It's certainly up there for something science fiction and gamer fans would enjoy to pass the time. Just a heads up, there will be some spoilers, as minimal as I can. With that said, you have been warned. The movie's story centers around the son of Kevin Flynn, Sam Flynn, played by Garrett Hedlund. One night, when the news announced that his father had disappeared, Sam became a little rebellious, doing his own way of life. One day, he broke into ENCOM to prank them by releasing the company's signature opertaing system online for free. One of the executives, Alan Bradley, played again by Bruce Boxleitner, approves of Sam's idea, believing that it would align with his old friend's ideal of free software, as he'd paid bail for Sam's arrest. Sam was given a hint from Alan via pager that led Sam into his father's old arcade and found a secret basement behind the old Tron arcade station. I'm not gonna lie, that is clever. After looking into the computer, Sam gets digitized into the Grid, which is now a virtual reality system created by Kevin. Upon arrival, Sam gets pit into playing the games, fighting off a program named Rinzler, under the orders of Clu, who looks like a young Kevin. Thankfully, Sam gets saved by an "isomorphic algorithm," or an ISO, named Quorra, played by Olivia Wilde, and takes him to his father. Kevin explains to his son about Clu and his plan to enter the real world outside of the Grid, by luring Alan into the Grid. Of course, there is more to what Clu would do to get into the real world, as Kevin explains it along with the ISOs that came into being and what happened to Tron. Like in the first, exposition is everything when we're in the world of the Grid. I'm not gonna lie, though, the world looks amazing. It is certainly a visual beauty when exploring the virtual world. Both the futuristic city and the desolate outer lands of the Grid. Reminding me much more of the series ReBoot and Code: Lyoko upon growing up. Sure, it is different from what the Grid looked like in Tron, but does well in its own rights. Even the special effects look extravagant. Some additional aspects like the gliders and the four-wheelers are amazing. Well, except for the de-aged head of Jeff Bridges on Clu's head, as some folks have pointed out. Yeah, it is distracting at times. I will admit that the costumes are better in this. As much as I have said that the costumes in Tron were goofy at times, but they are still cool for what the movie was especially with the designers who'd worked on them. The costumes in Tron: Legacy are more casual and more appealing, in my opinion. Props to Michael Wilkinson and Christine Bieselin Clark for working on the costume design. Like the exposition being similar in this movie, the characters are same. Their acting is good while posting characteristically, not so much on their development. Although, I do enjoy the times when it comes to Kevin and Sam having their father/son quality time when we're taking a breath from the action sequences. I do find the time Quorra is okay for who she is and what she does for both father and son. Then you have Zuse, played by Michael Sheen, who is just having a blast for what he does with his character. Clu is your basic villain as he is kinda like the MCP from the first movie as it is also one of the similarities from what the first movie had. Rinzler, for what he does including his backstory, is cool for how his character has played out from start to finish. I would also have to admit the last ten minutes tore me up a little for how it played out before the ending. Now, the other thing that folks have pointed out is one of the best aspects of the movie, the music. I don't listen to much of Daft Punk, but the music does fit well for the world of Tron: Legacy. I'm not much into rave music, but I admit, how the world delivers in visuals works with the music. Given that they have retired back in 2021, their legacy still lives on with both fans and this movie. Yeah, there's that bad joke when using the word "legacy" again. Yes, this movie does have some similarities from the original Tron, yet it improves on some aspects and it delivers well for what it has to offer. It's not for everyone, yet it can be a favorite to some. Even amongst the fans of the first Tron. I had a good time with Tron. So I had a good time with Tron: Legacy. I look forward to what Tron: Aries has to deliver. I will give this legacy sequel seven view of the Grid's city from afar out of ten. 7/10.
