Kevin Maher Times (UK) There are some nifty thriller tropes, including a high-tech camera pen and a sexy Nazi agent played by Marjorie Hoshelle, but the film finds its heart in the delicately played romance between Jesper and a traumatised resistance fighter, Gina. Rated: 5/5 Jan 24, 2020 Full Review Harry MacArthur Washington Star Cloak and Dagger has its sharp, melodramatic moments high with excitement and its sequences so taut with suspense that the more susceptible types will be suffering from shattered nerves before the thing is done. Rated: B Apr 3, 2013 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Starring Gary Cooper and Lili Plamer, Fritz Lang's WWII melodrama is one of the first Hollywood pictures to deal with the global threats of the atomic bomb. Croce CinePassion The ugly ruthlessness on both sides of the conflict attests to Lang's pragmatic refusal to pit simple "good" versus "evil" Nov 16, 2009 Full Review Michael E. nick s Great acting and awesome sets. Fritz does a great job of each scene. But for a long stretch it lacks tension and becomes humdrum. The shoehorned romance was a bit on the nose and too much of a distraction from the plot. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Steve D Nothing special but entertaining. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/07/24 Full Review ed m Good, tense spy thriller. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/02/22 Full Review SICKS6SIX A good film for a winter's afternoon. Apparently the ending is not what was first filmed the last reel was lost so a quick remake was made with a different ending to the original. Good performances from cooper and his Co star. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/27/22 Full Review paul d Fritz Lang didn't have enough magic to save Cloak and Dagger. What was under his control, the cinematography, was the best part of the film. But it was too long, and the script and dialogue uninspiring. Gary Cooper plays Gary Cooper, and he isn't very convincing in this role. Lilli Palmer was much better, and brought life to her scenes, but she wasn't enough to transform this ponderous dud. The music was also demerit, with martial music intruding in odd places. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A well-realised script that pulls few punches, it neither lets the actors down nor patronises its audience. Cooper is always a pleasure to watch. But Lili Palmer's portrayal of how damaging wartime is to the human soul is painfully believable - it's through her performance that you can intuit the innocence, gaiety and warmth of her past. This to me is her film and very worthwhile. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
