Pauline Kael New Yorker Juggernaut is fast, crackerjack entertainment. Sep 26, 2023 Full Review Joe Clay Times (UK) Lester’s taut direction means that this is streets ahead of your average disaster movie, with dialogue from Alan Plater lending the script some depth. Nov 16, 2022 Full Review David Pirie Time Out A penetrating and sardonic commentary on a fading and troubled Britain, neatly characterised by the lumberingly chaotic ocean liner, 'The Britannic', in which everything is falling apart... Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Steve Warren The Barb (Atlanta) It builds up quite a bit of suspense in the second hour, but the first is virtually wasted... May 5, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The title doesn't provide any clues -- no, this isn't a movie about the X-Men villain -- but Juggernaut is a nifty British thriller that offers maximum returns on its minimalist approach. Rated: 3/4 Oct 13, 2020 Full Review Alberto Abuín Espinof 'Juggernaut' is a high level show, a human adventure in which good is represented by perseverance and logic, and evil is the forgetfulness of a country towards a certain class of people. Blu B A 70's Disaster Thriller Classic. This does a suprisingly solid job mixing 60% Thriller 40% Disaster Movie well. Richard Harris is really good in this and the best moments are when it's just him in the tight knit space with the bomb which is really suspenseful and very well shot and edited. What this film also does is it keeps the pointless side subplots of throaway stock characters to a minimal level. It becomes very plot driven 75% of the time and when it cuts to the others trying to track down leads to help it makes perfect sense. Full credit should be given and this is the biggest strengths. Also, even though the villian is never seen, I didn't mind it at all. The issues are a couple. First off this needed ALOT more musical score to it because lots of times (mostly the first half) it does have a very dry feeling to it. I think a grand total of 3-4 scenes have music to them and it's a welcome to hear but it's not that memorable. It's not bad though. It really isn't needed during the second half because of how intense it gets though. Second, it still does have some pointless side characters and plot lines like the ship's captains relationship with his wife, the ball room dancing, and other scenes that really don't hold a candle to anything with the bomb plot. Now it is smart enough in the second half to drop those lines for the most part but man when it cuts to them you just want them to go back to the bomb ASAP. Besides that, man it's suprisngly solid and a real suprise from Richard Lester he made something like this and in the disaster genre of all things. Really this is a thriller I'd say more than anything but it defintely is a disaster flick also for a good chunk too. Anyone who is a fan of 70's era disaster flick or Thrillers, any actors in this, or Lester should check this out. A hidden gem. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/25/24 Full Review Alistair B This Film is a decent mid 1970's Thriller with an All Star✨ British Cast including Richard Harris,Ian Holm,Julian Glover a Younger Sir Anthony Hopkins,David Hemmings & great Character Actor Freddie Jones,Kenneth Cope from The odd & fun Randall and Hopkirk Deceased British TV Show + Omar Sharif etc. I won't give away The Plot but this basic idea was moved to a different setting two Decades later in a Keanu Reeves Blockbuster Flick. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/04/23 Full Review Michael D i saw this movie 25 years ago and watched it again a few days ago. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the lame passenger scenes, which feel like filler. fortunately, it's a minority of the movie. the bulk of the movie features some great actors trying to avert diaster under unbelievable pressure and risks. there's some scenes that remind me of The Jackal, others of Hurt Locker. I'm surprised it only gets 58% on the audience score, but that may be because this is a good movie that I think primarily appeals to a male audience. it's definitely worth a watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/29/23 Full Review Steve D Not a must watch but solid. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/08/23 Full Review Clive T It had good suspense for this kind of genre (where the hero always wins), with twists I wasn't expecting. Being 1974, the lack of CGI meant the action sequences often were really happening, which gave it an air of realism too. Instead of being stock hockum, it was very watchable Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/22 Full Review isla s This is a rather dated film nowadays. Its a somewhat typical 1970s disaster film, which felt like a kind of combination of The Poseidon Adventure (in terms of impending doom perhaps, less so Titantic) and the Die Hard films. Its not massively exciting or engrossing but its ok and it features an ok performance from Anthony Hopkins. It certainly felt a little cheesy and indeed I found myself humming along to 'The Lambeth Walk' part way through, for reasons that'll become obvious once you've seen it. Not awful, not great, this is just about worth watching I'd say and no more. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
