Despite its behind-the-scenes struggles, “The Unforgiven” remains an underrated Western, showcasing incredible acting performances and skillful direction. Go to Full Review

The Unforgiven is a work of profound phoniness: part adult Western, part that Oklahoma! kind of folksy Americana. Go to Full Review

This film ... comes draped in the hair shirt of revisionism, but in reality it's an unrepentant throwback to the "good old days" when the only good Indian was a dead Indian. Go to Full Review

Bear B. @BearB Nov 29 Severely underrated western that deals with the complexity of family, community, loyalty, conflict, death, and more. A uniquely mystical western with an interesting cast of characters. Well acted and directed. Hepburn in the role of a dramatic and impulsive teen that finds herself in an impossible situation is compelling. Lancaster delivers one of his best performances as a stoic leader with suppressed emotions. Some characters are intentionally difficult. Worth a second or even a third watch to appreciate the complexity. Very interesting film that asks hard questions. See more Vítor Pimentel de Oliveira V Mar 14 A solid and natural acting from Burt Lancaster can't save this from being a phony mess, especially when it faces de overdramatization from the ensemble, especially from Audrey Hepburn, which next year went to star Breakfast at Tifffany's, Extremely dated and surely one of the worst works by John Huston. See more Jelisije J 06/08/2024 An old school Western that has a great cast with an interesting premise but fails to hold my attention with so many dragged out scenes. See more nick s 10/20/2023 The production quality is high, with great scenic shots. And the acting is great. But it's pretty drawn out. I gave it a lot of time to get going as I'm a fan of the actors and the sets were awesome, but I just didn't get hooked by the storyline. To be honest there were some elements I wasn't keen on. An awful lot of Indians were mowed down in an attempt to rescue their kidnapped sister. Were they the bad guys? Even the sister was mowing them down. Felt a bit like a whitey who-cares-about-injuns movie. I was expecting a reconciliation but nope. 🤷 See more dana r 09/28/2022 I have seen this movie for years. Never reviewed it. I like it a lot and recommend it. I appreciate and like the strong acting from Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn. You can see in the movie the national angst of racism as Audie Murphy and community friends seethe in racism that confuses Hepburn, while Lancaster and the Zachary family band together to fight the vicious racism thrown at them. It's timeless, well written and acted, and I always enjoy watching it. There are no actors today like Lancaster and Hepburn. Not even close. See more 07/12/2022 20% rating .... Interesting plot twist, but I had troubles staying focused because it was rather boring in my opinion. See more Read all reviews
