In 17th-century England, Barbara Worth (Margaret Lockwood) lives a privileged yet humdrum life as the wife of well-heeled landowner Sir Ralph Skelton (Griffith Jones). To stave off boredom, Barbara begins impersonating famed highway robber Capt. Jerry Jackson, stealing precious jewels and valuables from coach passengers. A chance encounter with the actual Jackson (James Mason) propels Barbara into a dangerous double life with potentially lethal consequences.

James Agee TIME Magazine Amid the romantic highwaymen, secret passages and poisoned elderberry wine, the bogus sentiments expressed by the actors are a perfect match for the bogus look of their hair pieces. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A charming little tale of an incredibly dislike able heroine Barbara played by the immortal British Screen Actor Margaret Lockwood. Basically the epitome of sin one of the screen most wicked & deceitful characters a unique stray from the role's she usually played. The acts of Barbara are interesting but it's you desire to see whats coming to her is the main draw. Supported wonderfully by James Mason who is as much of a devil as she is.
