Thomas M. Pryor New York Times Akim Tamiroff as an unscrupulous soda store proprietor gives what is perhaps the worst performance of his career. This is noted with regret, for Mr. Tamiroff is an actor with talent. Audience Member Top notch overty row film noir features quite a few well known actors before they were big, inlacing Barry Sullivan, Harry Morgan, John Ireland, Sheldon Leonard, Elisha Cook Jr. Leif Erickson, Charles McGraw, Jeff Corey and Shelly Winters in an uncredited role as a cashier. Sullivan plays a gangster who run a numbers racket and controls the waterfront in this tough, cynical story. As opposed to another noir I recently watched that thad a lame tacked on happy ending, this film is a tough as nail, mean and nasty type of story I love. I'd never seen this one before, so catching a strong new noir was a lot of fun.
