Steve D A mixed bag but with these two it is hard not to like it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Able direction by Clarence Brown, great settings, and a well written script this is gratifying though cliche entertainment. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Melodramatic romance film finds Joan Crawford as a factory worker who meets a drunk rich guy, and he invites her into the city another time and then ditches her. Clark Gable dates her but won't marry her because he has been hurt, throw in some political stuff and its an average film with n memorable bits. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member A wonderful Joan Crawford film not to be confused with her second, completely unrelated, also wonderful movie of the same title (yes) from 1947. This one, to be sure, also stars Clark Gable, and it dates from the years when Gable and Crawford had an intermittent, steamy affair. The chemistry is good, the filming excellent, and the overall story a lively pre-code, Depression-era tale of succeeding... She certainly picked herself a swell sugar daddy--The ambitious box factory worker Marian (Joan Crawford) lives in the countryside and dreams on having a luxury lifestyle, with a comfortable apartment, jewels and money. Distinctive Pre-Code Feminist Picture with a Great looking Joan Crawford well before Her Success and Star Status deranged Her Mind... 'Possessed' was also originally banned in England for it's depiction of two people living in sin and actually enjoying it!! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Joan Crawford does not seem nearly as bizarre an actress in her early films. Her over dramatic style seems more appropriate in these early talkies, but that same acting style is hysterically campy in her later films. In this film, Crawford is a factory girl who becomes the mistress of Park Avenue lawyer Clark Gable, It's a pretty silly melodrama, but here are some interesting early feminist themes and also some fun pre-production code boundaries being pushed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Clark Gable is the first man I can remember looking at and thinking WOW. Even if I was about 10 years old. I enjoyed watching a young Clark and Joan on the screen. The story seemed a little racy for it's time, with the whole idea of exchanging sex for money and vice versa.
