larry Very well made movie. Had the feeling of being in the film the entire time. Engaging story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/17/21 Full Review Ervin Greatest western movie ever Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/13/21 Full Review Sterlin R. “That’s right. I've killed women and children. I've killed everything that walks or crawls at one time or another. And I'm here to kill you, Little Bill, for what you did to Ned.” - William Munny Unforgiven, from 1992 and directed by Clint Eastwood, is without a doubt my all-time favorite film. I instantly fell in love with the moment I first watched it, and after rewatching twice, I’ve really picked up on aspects as to what makes it a very remarkable spectacle. It also made me realize how absolutely versatile and tremendous Clint Eastwood is as both an actor and director, and he has became my number one favorite as of now. This film is just a perfect example of something that gets insanely better every time I watched it, and it has a lot of awesomeness to it. This movie takes place in the 1880s in the dangerous town of Big Whiskey, Wyoming. A prostitute named Delilah (played Anna Thomson) gets attacked and disfigured by a pair of cowboys, and her co-workers post a bounty because of this. This then angers a the town's sheriff, who goes by the name of “Little Bill” (played by Gene Hackman). He is one who just sees himself as someone who is building a house and is doing what he thinks is best to bring justice and order to the town. His methods, though, are quite cruel which makes him corrupt for the town and will not allow vigilantism in his town. A young outlaw known as “The Schofield Kid” (played by Jamiz Woolvett) goes to inform someone about the bounty. William Munny (played by Clint Eastwood) was once a ruthless killer who hasn’t been at it in the last 11 years as his wife Claudia had passed away, and it led to him giving up his killing and his alcoholism. He has been a hog farmer raising his two children in peace. He declines the bounty offer at first, but when he realizes his farm is failing and is worried about his children’s futures, he decides to go on a journey to find the men behind the slashing crime. Along with the Schofield Kid, William teams up with his old partner, Ned Logan (played by Morgan Freeman), and together they set out to take out the men while also dealing with Little Bill in their way. This movie’s story is just so exceedingly entertaining and intriguing all the way through. Before I watched this film, I was not too fond of the Western genre. But this film really made me change my view of it, and it has become one of my favorites genres for a movie. I absolutely loved the idea of a guy who cares for his children, and has regrets of his past, and has to possibly return to what he used to be in order to keep his children alive. It goes by in a brilliant pace for a little over two hours, and its story was told in such a complete way. I also loved the themes this film has, such as redemption, aging, the portrayal of violence in the Old West, and even the deconstruction of it. It really makes the writing in this film super strong and super good. The characters are also brilliantly written, and the finale of this film seriously gets better every time I watch it. The whole film builds up to a super satisfying finale and it really pays off. The cinematography is some of the best looking I’ve seen as there is quite a bit of beautiful shots of scenery, and pairing it with a beautifully marvelous score that was composed by Clint Eastwood himself was just insanely epic. The score fits so good with the tone and style of this movie, and is one of the greatest pieces of music I’ve listened to. The sets and costume design adds to the brilliant production value and look of the film, and it just makes it even better. This film won four Academy Awards, and three of them were for Best Picture, Best Director, and Beat Editing. These three were all rightfully deserved, and Clint Eastwood’s direction was truly outstanding that not only it’s his best directed film in my opinion, but it shows how truly remarkable of a director he is. The acting is absolutely amazing. On top of flawlessly directing the film, Clint Eastwood gives his best performance of all time as William Munny. I love how his character is written as one that has regrets of his past and is an aging ex-killer who doesn’t know if he has what it takes to collect this bounty, but he continues to do so and by the end of the film he transforms into his past self, which shows who he really was back in the day. Eastwood just gave such an excellent delivery and performance as William Munny that he is one of the absolute greatest movie characters ever. This also made me realize just how iconic Clint is, and he has become Morgan Freeman was very amazing as William’s partner Ned, and was quite an incredible co-star for the film as both Eastwood and Freeman had phenomenal chemistry throughout the movie, and made an excellent duo. Jamiz Woolvett was also very great as the Schofield Kid who goes with Eastwood and Freeman. Gene Hackman as Sheriff Little Bill was seriously incredible and his Oscar for his performance was very well deserved. His character is written as brutal, manipulative, and merciless, and Hackman’s portrayal of it was so very well executed and complete that not only is it his best role, but he could perhaps be the greatest movie villain I’ve ever seen. Richard Harris did a very great job as the character English Bob, who stumbles into town and gets horribly punished by Little Bill. The supporting cast playing the people of the town, and all the supporting characters were all very excellent. Everyone was so realistic and versatile with their characters that it is some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. I love this film so so much. It is a movie that I really wished I watched years ago. It truly is something that I missed out on, and is what got me more into the Western genre. It is a cinematic masterpiece that showcases Clint Eastwood at his very best, and is a movie that gets super riveting and entertaining after every watch that it is now my favorite movie of all time. If you have not seen this film, I absolutely recommend it.
