Solid performances from the cast, lead by Ida Lupino. Some good jazzy numbers if you like that sort of thing. The story had several threads to follow and sometimes it was hard to maintain interest in the side plots. But it finished well.

Don't know what director Raoul Walsh did to illicit so many engrossing performances but it sure is cool to watch. The story is uneven but worthy of your attention if you like a woman's melodrama with some noir elements.
