J M Is there a more reliable actor in the world than Jeff Bridges? Despite a long overdue Oscar for 2009's CRAZY HEART and decades of credits, he never seems to be mentioned among the pantheon of great actors. This overlooked film by the great Australian director Peter Weir is an emotionally devastating experience and deserves to be mentioned among the very best films with which Bridges, and the entire cast for that matter, has been associated. A look at the aftermath of a fatal plane crash, Bridges and Oscar nominee Perez, two of the few survivors, have scenes that are positively gut wrenching. The depiction of the actual crash itself is amazingly realistic and terrifying. And this film has one of the best endings, featuring Bridges and the wondrous Rossellini, that I have ever seen and will truly never forget. It breaks my heart that a film of this caliber goes widely unseen and virtually forgotten. - Jeff Marshall, Movie Blogger (Facebook) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review Todd C Great character study. Well acted. Especially Isabella Rossellini. Rosie Perez was great too and I'm fine with her being nominated for the Oscar, but I would of went with Rossellini. I had never heard of this movie so it makes me feel like it is a bit underrated and underappreciated. It was an interesting study in how two people dealt with the same life and death event in very different ways. It doesn't finalize things which may be frustrating for some, but I think it would never be finalized. Visually nice to watch. I liked the ending and it surprised me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Peter Weir directs the story of a man no longer afraid Jeff Bridges plays a man Max Klein Hes miraculously survived a plane crash leaving many injured and more dead After walking away he has a sense of clarity; believing nothing can hurt or kill him he goes on a life changing journey Max is all happy go lucky with no worries Yet everyone around him questions his sanity, he doesn't go to see his wife but rather his ex girlfriend A psychologist played by John Tuturro and a survivor played by Rosie Perez try all they can to bring him back down to earth Weir shows the mindset of a survivor but maybe it's changed for the worst; most people to make it out of a disaster would be mentally exhausted or emotionally broken How long does it take for someone to finally confront the trauma of what just happened? This is a very quiet, slow moving drama It focuses on the PTSD people have difficulty facing even if they're grateful making it through This will test many peoples patience for sure still Perez and Bridges make for a dramatic pair Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review TWMax65 The acting from everyone in this movie is really well-done and the premise is a noteworthy subject to explore as well. As someone who works in mental health I can appreciate what this movie is going for and how significant it can be for some people to watch. It can even act as an inspiration for individuals to live their own lives more powerfully, take more risks, and not have regrets. The music in the film enhances the mood greatly and at a certain point in time the movie flew by for me time-wise (no pun intended). I got invested in the main characters and get the feels from almost every scene. A really good movie! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/01/23 Full Review Mike W Top notch performances from Bridges, Rossellini and Perez. Perez especially! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/23 Full Review Sean M Not sure what all the great reviews are about? Movie was so boring and I couldn't get into it. Rosie Perez was really annoying too.
