Audience Member what a talented cast & cameos by Eric B & Rakim. Patrick Stewart plays a bit part but would have been much better as Christopher Lamberts co-lead. Kadeem Hardison in Mario Van Peebles role. So goods are the bad guys & vice versa. Dennis Leary is overrated all he can do is play a snarky jerk who is so unthreatening to ppl who are actually tough that it is difficult to take him seriously as a bad guy bc it is so obvious how easy it would be to kick his ass. Lambert is like Nick Cage to me bc i only really like 2 or 3 of their movies that I like but have seen over 20 of their films. Raising Arizona & Highlander are that badass🤘 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I rented this on VHS back in the 90s and did not think much of it. A buddy team up comedy that is short of thrills and will be enjoyed more nowadays due to the supporting cast. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member There was a lot wrong with this movie: bad directing, bad acting, Christopher Lambert's annoying voice, Christopher Lambert's annoying laugh, random characters showing up in the middle of nowhere, nonsensical musical cameos, too many water jumps, Christopher Lambert's annoying voice, Christopher Lambert's annoying laugh... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a goofy little action film that I've always had a soft spot for. It essentially a modern day version of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" with a rogues gallery of baddies all trying to find a large cache of South American drug money. Christopher Lambert is the Ugly, playing a scuzzy goodwill, Mario Van Peebles is the the Good, playing a smooth hero, and Denis Leary is the bad, a nasty henchman working for evil cripple, Patrick Stewart. Kadeem Hardison, Sally Kirkland and Brenda Bakke (who I used to thing was a super hot actress but have no idea where she is now) also appear in supporting roles. The film was directed by Deran Sarafian who directed the also underrated "Terminal Velocity" but the film was also written by Stephen Sommers before he started doing large budget films like "The Mummy," "Van Helsing" or "GI Joe". For my money, it's Sommer's earlier films like this, "Deep Rising" or even his Disney films that are his best. Overall, it's a fun, breezy little action flick. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm watching this flick called GUNMEN right now. I've always been a bit curious about it back in the day, but I typically avoided any movie with Mario Van Peebles in it. At the time he was ridiculously overexposed. As it turns out the flick is a contemporary western in the vein of THE RUNDOWN written by Stephen Sommers and directed by no one in particular who has had a prolific career in directing TV episodes. I'd totally forgotten about it until I was scrolling through Netflix as my taste profile recommended it. And it's pretty fucking entertaining all the way through. It's very quick moving, hilarious at times and loaded with a lot of content in just 90 minutes. I used to think that movies back then probably seemed crappy at the time, but looking back and comparing movies to today that have such meandering plots prolonged by empty characters it really did seem like people actually cared about the kinds of films they were in. Now, it just seems like everyone wants it to be obvious they don't give a shit that they were involved with a Hollywood tent pole flick and they'll talk trash about it a year later after they're done promoting it. So, Netflix just made it easier to risk spending time on gems like this. Other flicks just like it: Extreme Prejudice (1987), Down Twisted (1987), Jake Speed (1986), Trespass (1992). Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Non stop action as several parties race to find millions of dollars of drug money stolen by a now dead drug runner. This box office disappointment deserved a better fate. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
