Critics Consensus

Chris Farley and David Spade reunite to diminishing returns in Black Sheep, a comedic retread that succumbs to a woolly plot and sophomoric jokes.

Entertainment Weekly Rated: D+ Dec 17, 2008 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle A little comedy that succeeds in its modest aim to provide 87 minutes of harmless diversion. Rated: 2/4 Jun 18, 2002 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times Works as well as it does because the anarchic, high-energy spirits of Farley and Spheeris lock into each other perfectly. Rated: 3/5 Feb 13, 2001 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media It received scathing reviews upon release, and it's certainly no masterpiece, but this broad slapstick comedy has a few good laughs and a sweetness that, in retrospect, makes it somewhat endearing. Rated: 3/5 Jun 4, 2024 Full Review Kevin Carr 7M Pictures may not be remembered as a masterful comedy classic, but for the college humor crowd with a relatively safe PG-13 rating, it's a fun diversion Rated: 3/5 Nov 23, 2009 Full Review Peter Canavese Groucho Reviews It's nice to see the two together, practicing their easy screen rapport--and no doubt more so given Farley's untimely passing--but Black Sheep is still a clunker. Caleigh N I absolutely love this movie, but it isn't for everyone. The humor is, as the internet would say, "broken", but it's one of the few movies that makes me laugh out loud every time, and I quote it on the daily. The casting crew could not have found better costars than Chris Farley and David Spade. It's comedic and unserious, yet respects the weight and significance of how these comedic mishaps effected each character and their lives, for better or worse. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Meagan W ABSOLUTE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I WATCH THIS EVERY TIME I NEED A HELL OF A GOOD LAUGH!!!!! IT NEVER FAILS 😁🥰 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Christopher J funny but not tommy boy funny Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review Ace R The critics give this movie a very low score. Well the critics are very wrong. If you look at the public, or viewers, score you'll see it's a high score, and the public knows what is good and what is not. This is the funniest movie I have ever seen! I and my family laughed until our ribs hurt! I highly recommend that you see this movie. 😂👍 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/24 Full Review StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 27 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review M R It's not nearly as good as 'Tommy Boy'. Though very dumb on the surface, there are very hilarious moments and somewhat of a poignant message. Chris Farley was the best! 76/100 C Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
