Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online It's well acted, nuanced, and surprisingly effective. A definite must-see thriller. Rated: B+ Mar 21, 2017 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times It works best whenever Goodman swaggers into frame, a slack-jawed psycho with a cuddly side. Rated: 3/5 Dec 28, 2016 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com 10 Cloverfield Lane might not be a true sequel to Cloverfield, but that doesn't make it any less magnificent, watching it a spellbinding treat I simply did not want to see come to an end. Rated: 4/4 Aug 15, 2016 Full Review Brian Bisesi Horror Movie Club Podcast 10 Cloverfield Lane takes the time to flesh out nuanced character dynamics without sacrificing its thrilling pace. The script, direction, and acting all serve to keep this practically single setting film engaging and exciting Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 25, 2024 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film Overall, the craftsmanship on display pretty stimulating and Trachtenberg has put his name into the hat of directors you need to watch out for in the near future. Rated: A- Aug 1, 2024 Full Review Ankit Ojha Cinema Elite [...] this is a film that gleefully revels in its own expressionist undertones, and the fact that it’s a part of the “Cloverfield” universe only goes to benefit from that. The Dry T Is there more than one adaptation of this movie? The 1st one I saw was decent. But what I just watched was a train-wreck. Did I just watch a "directors cut"? Or did the editors trash it? Goodman, protect your rights. Everyone was good until the last 3 minutes, but Mandela Effect me, who switched the ending, for worse? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/28/25 Full Review Julian Rex M Charged with a suspenseful adrenaline that never lets up, 10 Cloverfield Lane combines claustrophobic thrills with twisty world-building to create a unique apocalypse adventure that cleverly counters its numerous narrative deus ex machinas with entrancing atmosphere and remarkably even pacing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/25/25 Full Review Kevin P A tense thriller airhead great writing, subtle direction, and a great concept that keeps you guessing about what's really going on. The bunker is a great setting and the questions that arise keep you on edge for the whole film. John Goodman is more terrifying than the monster itself with so much uncertainty behind his true intentions. Someone who you genuinely can’t tell if he's crazy, correct, or both. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is great as the lead with a ton of agency and resourcefulness throughout the whole film. John Gallagher Jr is also very likable as the other bunker resident. The ending twist is very divisive. I'm personally fine with the climax and I feel like the movie ends on a good note. But its connection to Cloverfield confuses the hell out of me (other than marketing purposes) and I feel like it would've worked better as a standalone movie like the original script intended before it was bought out for IP expansion. But it's still a really good movie with so many subtle implications of John Goodman's creepy vibes like "Little princess", getting jealous of the other two's chemistry, and especially one cleanshaven scene. There are multiple great twists with John Goodman's character and the state of the world, each adding more nuance and uncertainty about what's going on and who's the real threat. It's a great bunker thriller and easily one of the best performances I've seen from John Goodman. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review HameZz O I love this psychological thriller. I had not seen the first Cloverfield so the ending actually did surprise me. If you have not seen the first one I'd watch this one before it. Fun/intense movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Ghost P John Goodman is such a surprising actor everytime. He always plays something close to what I expect, but somehow even better everytime. Love love love his acting in this. This movie definitely does keep you guessing and second guessing right until the climax at the end but its worth the watch. This is a solid post-apocalypse surviving in a bunker type movie that u can watch on its own but keep in mind that this movie does tie in to other movies so if you feel like its not enough, theres more to the story. Its a bit slow paced for a portion of the movie but you wont regret it by the end. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review Griffith J Spin chilling intensity. Full of details that fuel the mystery. Incredible editing & visual storytelling. Some of the best pacing ever with high tension split with meaningful dialogue. What a masterful screenplay!
