Marija R It's just a relaxing movie to watch. Not anything revolutionary, not a masterpiece, but it made me want to watch the sequel. Definitely watchable and enjoyable. But don't expect too much. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/04/25 Full Review TheMovieSearch R Are We There Yet?, starring Ice Cube and Nia Long, is one of those early-2000s family comedies that aims for charm but ends up feeling more exhausting than entertaining. The premise—a man trying to win over a woman by chauffeuring her kids on a long road trip—is classic enough for the genre, but the execution misses the mark. While there are glimpses of humor and heart, the film struggles to balance them, often veering into over-the-top slapstick and awkward situations. The script is the movie’s biggest flaw. Dialogue is clunky, jokes are repetitive, and pacing swings wildly between slow, dragging scenes and rushed, chaotic sequences. Some scenes, like the infamous house sequence with the over-the-top realtor, push the comedy so far that it stops being funny and starts feeling absurd. Instead of clever family humor, the film often leans into cartoonish exaggeration that just highlights how thinly the story is held together. Performances are equally uneven. Ice Cube, who can be very charismatic in the right role, feels restrained here, lacking material that allows him to shine. The daughter’s child acting is stiff and unnatural, making it difficult to fully engage with the story. Nia Long, however, is a bright spot—she delivers a grounded, warm performance that almost makes the movie watchable and shows why she remains a respected figure in film. Visually, the movie does what it needs to but nothing more. Road-trip scenes and family hijinks are staged competently, but there’s no flair or style to elevate the material. The direction is functional, guiding the actors through the scenes, but it can’t rescue a script that often feels scattered and poorly conceived. Ultimately, Are We There Yet? is a frustrating mix of potential and mediocrity. The concept had room for genuine laughs and heart, but the execution never allows it to fully land. The film’s saving grace is Nia Long, whose charm and acting talent inject life into an otherwise dull and messy comedy. For families or fans of Ice Cube’s lighter roles, it might hold some nostalgic appeal, but for anyone seeking a truly entertaining family film, there are far better options from the era. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Kenechukwu Kingsley O You see, I like movies like this because it just is supposed to be relaxing to watch.....how you "CRITICS" watch movies like this without relaxing is beyond me. Giving a normal everyday relaxing atmosphere of a movie 2 stars. Unbelievable Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Mikey B Loud, obnoxious, unfunny movie that shows children in dangerous situations and thinks its funny. In bad taste and without laughs Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review Gumpy T Was pretty surprised by how low of a score this got. One of my favorite films, with a great and super entertaining cast. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review Koi P Fun, entertaining movie.
