Matt McNally BBC.com As a subject, he's reluctant to navel gaze, and his words -- subtitled because of his low, mumbling speech -- rarely provide an insight into his talent. Rated: 2/5 Dec 6, 2005 Full Review Mark Feeney Boston Globe William Eggleston in the Real World offers an admiring and affectionate, if also unillusioned, view of its subject at work, play, and not much of anything (a suitably Egglestonian activity). Rated: 3/4 Dec 2, 2005 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter The result isn't particularly mesmerizing, but it does offer a well-rounded portrait that will be of particular interest to photography lovers. Sep 22, 2005 Full Review Tobias Carroll Hyperallergic A fascinating exploration of the impossibility of interpreting one's vision beyond a certain point. Eggleston's photographs are full of history and character; attempting to find a specific meaning is an effort doomed to failure. Feb 29, 2020 Full Review Brian Gibson Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta) There is a sense of impromptu genius, of exactitude colliding with suddenness as the seemingly banal is rendered, for a moment, vividly permanent. Eggleston's photos force the viewer to behold the beauty of the commonplace. Jul 1, 2006 Full Review Dan Lybarger eFilmCritic.com Rated: 4/5 May 6, 2006 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member the doc itself is not that great but eggleston is. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Badly done. Gave no insight on the man. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Quiet film that captures the artist's process, without bells-and-whistles forcing of dramatics. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting documentary about the meaning and nature or perception. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member An intimate portrait of one of Americas best photographer. Slow but intimate look at the man. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Kinda slipped into this randomly through the cable TV you kids are watching these days, but found it hypnotizing and fascinating. Though well-acquainted with photography's 'art history', I know little about Eggleston the man. Near the end of the film, where he's talking to the documentarian and clearly losing interest in the whole enterprise, he talks about the futility of talking about art. It is heartbreaking. It is amazing. It is tragic. See it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
