      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Some tonal inconsistency makes 18 1/2 more of a 7/10, but this well-acted period piece mines the Watergate scandal for fresh, insightful dramedy.

dave d There are some fantastic actors here and some worthwhile scenes but the whole isn't much. The drama becomes too over the top and eventually absurd to an extreme. The film is centered around the missing Watergate tapes and built around endless whatifisms. The movie grows tiresome and at under 90 minutes feels much longer. Final Score: 4/10 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Nigel G Highly original and wonderfully unpredictable take on Watergate. Superb casting and excellent performances, and a very distinctive aesthetic throughout. A clever and original film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/23 Full Review Laurence F I really enjoyed the twisted plot and it took a little time to figure it out. Willa does an amazing job in her role and we hope to see more of her in future roles, maybe back in future Reacher series! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review James M What the hell were the writers/directors thinking, the film has no logic, the crazy scenes are so off the wall you have to be on drugs to believe the film makes anything feel real, other than the first 20 mins where it could have actually lead to a really good movie. Totally disappointed and wish I'd gone to bed! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Michael G I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend watching it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/20/22 Full Review Arthur B Surely a story about the 18 1/2 minutes could have been made more interesting than this nonsense !! Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Mirvish’s excellent cast approaches this sequence like a one-act play, swinging at every curveball their fellow actors throw. Jul 8, 2022 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian It’s entertaining enough and you never know where the story is headed, but it doesn’t quite hold together. Rated: 3/5 Jul 4, 2022 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Yes, another Watergate movie, but this one's fun and totally fictional. Rated: 3/4 Jun 9, 2022 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com One of the year's true indie gems and most under-appreciated films. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Dec 26, 2022 Full Review Valerie Kalfrin AWFJ.org gamely entertaining ... The biggest problem with 18 1/2 is keeping track of the Watergate figures. ... 18 1/2 might be enjoyable for history buffs, but others may wonder what the fuss is about. Rated: 3/5 Dec 23, 2022 Full Review Jessica Scott Film Cred Steadfastly refusing to choose just one genre, but maintaining a compelling and unique tone throughout, 18½ captures just how ludicrous and doomed America truly is.
