To boost ratings of his television show, Steve Allen (himself) changes the format, replacing music with short films. When his producer, Jeffers (Frank Nelson), demands that he show the new format -- which he hasn't prepared yet -- to a potential sponsor, Steve accidentally runs a silent Mack Sennett film, then hastily attempts to cover the silence with impromptu music and effects. A flurry of short films featuring the Keystone Kops, Franklin Pangborn and others follow as Steve tries to keep up.

Audience Member A beauty contest, religious processions, airflights, scientific experiments, aeronautics, war, Nixon and Rockefeller... All of this is the "additional material" for the "time capsule" Lipsett intended to construct for future generations. Edited magnificently, Lipsett attempts to represent society as an entity subject to transculturation and globalization in an era of technological progress while, once again, presenting brief glimpses of commentaries about Pantheism. Lipsett already had defied the line between documentary and fiction in film, but never trespassed it. This time, we have crossed the line, and make a temporary stop in the world of documentaries. 99/100 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
