Garry M Very moving, but also a splendid example of imaginative REALISM. This is not a Fantasy movie. It is biographic at one level, and explores Charles Dickens relationship with his father, and how this unresolved part of his life to reconciled in the writing of a Christmas Carol. There is no fantasy. There IS representation of hurt and blame on his feckless father in the form of ghosts, and his fictional characters coming to life. Alongside is the Dickens creative process pushed up against the economic necessity of having a successful story/book. The resolution is so apt and moving I've rated it a 4 star movie.
