A House Is Not a Disco documents a year-in-the-life in the world's most iconic "homo-normative" community: Fire Island Pines. Situated fifty miles from New York City, this storied queer beach town finds itself in the midst of a renaissance as a new generation of Millennial homeowners reimagine The Pines for a new, more inclusive era. Filmed like a Wiseman movie on magic mushrooms, a large cast of unforgettable eccentrics, activists, drifters and first-timers reflect on the legacy of The Pines while preparing their beloved village for the biggest challenge it has faced since the AIDS crisis: rising seas caused by climate change.

Rated: 7/10 Mar 18, 2024 Full Review Louisa Moore Screen Zealots A niche documentary that will play especially well with like-minded audiences, the film offers a terrific opportunity to learn about a vibrant gay community and the people who are breathing new life into it. Mar 15, 2024 Full Review Peter Martin ScreenAnarchy Strong opinions are expressed from time to time, but mostly this is what I'd call a 'mellow' documentary, a film for like-minded viewers to sink into, luxuriate in, and recommend to friends. Like a literal vacation in a sunny beach town. Mar 8, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
