Possibly the most genuinely over-rated movie I have watched in a long time. I watched this recently for the first time, after having it on my watch list for a while from hearing great things about it and also liking Birdbox which has a similar premise. Oh my goodness, this was awful. So many things do not make sense. Suspense and horror for the sake of the thrills, but no realism, cohesion, or reason. As in all fictional stories, there's "science" that is not necessarily explained according to the real world, such as the creatures and where they come from and how they managed to bring about an apocalypse. Move passed that, this movie provides no explanations as to the ongoing wider context of the world, and simply comes up with very unrealistic situations which are inconsistent with... well, how it would play out realistically. Tense moments are the norm for no reason, characters survive when they shouldn't and then get into a pickle without explanation, over and over again! the last hour of the movie feels like a time loop that happens in different rooms of the house. A lot of things simply don't make sense. Do not watch this if you're looking for a good, solid story. Watch this if you just want a thriller. The only thing that sells this movie is good acting with A-listers, and an appealing setting. If you want to watch the same movie but done much much better, watch Birdbox.
