Jesse B Aug 30 My family and I watch “A Whisker Away” and it was breathtaking See more Tony P Jun 26 Ok, I really like the use of symbolism and motifs here, the writers pulled in visions of characters like the protagonist effortlessly, literally making everyone else a scarecrow apart from the love interest is a smart way to symbolise the importance of that character throughout the film. Other things like when the two characters are sitting together in the rain while only one has an umbrella really shows, not tells the characters' emotions. The art was just good too, as well as the music! I loved the themes of the movie the most though, things like love, depression, and others. See more Jay W 12/02/2024 "A Whisker Away" is a movie about a girl who buys a mask that turns her into a cat. The girl then uses this ability to spend time with a boy she has a crush on. One benefit this movie has going for it is their main character, Miyo Sasaki. In most of these "Isekai" type movies is that they make the main character a blank slate. They are simply meant to be the audience surrogate character, to go ew and aw at the new world they've found. But in this film Miyo is definitely her own character. She's crazy, out there, whacky and adventurous. This does lead to the down side of the movie, sometimes Miyo is acting a little too crazy, making decisions that strain the believability and frustrate the audience. A Whisker Away has a lot of heart, and tackles a lot of issues that a lot of children can relate to. Heartbreak, parental abandonment, loneliness and inadequacy are all tackled very well. The movie is more clever than the advertising would lead you to believe. The animation is very good. There are times, particularly with the cat transformations, where you can tell they took some shortcuts, but other times where the animation is stunning. There is a scene of someone crying in this, and it may be the saddest animated tears I have ever seen. There are a few moments where anime cultural differences may distract. For example when you find out that the kids in this movies are supposed to be in middle school, it makes some of the scenes a bit more awkward. There is also a stretch in this movie where it switched gears and became a horror film. I won't spoil what happens, but suffice it to say that I now have a new greatest fear. It really creeped me-owt. I say give it a watch, it is a prrrrr-fectly feline movie. See more 11/11/2024 A unique plot with a girl trying to connect with her crush by transforming into a kitten. The beginning of the movie feels generic yet engaging, with the finale being satisfying enough. SDI Media's English dub is well performed and compliments the movie. The animation is the biggest selling point, with fluid motion, amazing lighting, and breathtaking visuals. The music used compliments and suites the tone. However, the pacing can feel sluggish and dragging especially with its 1hr and 44min runtime. Overall, the execution of this movie is well done and is a fun movie to relax to, deserving its score of 3.5/10. See more Read all reviews
