John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture Disney, you will be relieved to hear, has done a decent job of adapting A Wrinkle in Time for television... Jan 25, 2018 Full Review Common Sense Media Editors Common Sense Media Somewhat clunky but mostly faithful to the book. Rated: 3/5 Jan 1, 2011 Full Review John J. Puccio Movie Metropolis I haven't read the book, but I can't imagine, given its popularity, that it would have been read by as many people as it has if it were as mundane as this movie. Joshua T In this period of being transparent, I fully admit that this movie is not the greatest. That said, the reason why I'm giving it four and a half stars anyway is because it happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time. Much of that is due to nostalgia as I grew up with this film, but as I've grown older and continued to rewatch it, there have been other aspects that I've really grown to appreciate independently of my nostalgia for the movie, most especially the soundtrack. I will maintain that the soundtrack of this movie is at the top of my favorite soundtrack list. Also the writing, though sometimes corny, does come across as earnest and the teen/child actors do a remarkably good job. The special effects are really bad. Like it-almost-looks-like-a-Windows-screensaver-at-times bad at best, and nightmare fuel inducing at worst. They weren't great even by 2003 standards, and have only grown worse over time. That said, if you're willing to look past it, they are serviceable. (And I don't mind them at all considering that I'm very nostalgic for this movie) All in all, I honestly think that while the 2018 film Is technically better as a film, I still 100% prefer this version, especially as an adaptation of the book (which I also love). The 2018 film in my opinion did not do the book justice in many ways, while this, the 2003 film, does do the book justice despite all of its many, many flaws. I strongly recommend it to anyone who has my taste, which to be fair is probably not very many people Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/07/25 Full Review max a I haven't read the novel this movie was based on, which I assume would have cleared a lot of my confusion, still I find the movie decent enough. Sure, most of the time it's a rollercoaster and it feels hard to follow, but at least David Dorfman's performance was good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny and original!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member NOPE THIS 2003 MOVIE SCARY ME I WAS 1 YEAR OLD BACK IN 2003 BECUSE I WAS BORN IN 2002 ON AUG 15TH ! I'M NOT 🤔 ? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved it! Yes it was a bit different than the book but it was close enough. I loved Mrs. Whatsit flying into the kitchen as a crow & transforms into a human. The best was the the cast. They pick the best people for the roles. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member What a strange way to write a movie. Movies are usually written to draw you into the story. This movie deliberately tries to keep you away from what's going on. A good mystery gives subtle clues along the way to immerse the audience in what's going on. This was like a mystery with no clues where you're just expected to follow along blindly from beginning to end. By time the movie is over you feel like 'so what?" The visuals aren't anything special and the characters are just weird Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
