New, well-developed characters add dimension to this batty satire, creating a comedy much more substantial than the original. Read critic reviews

      Movie Info

The members of the odd Addams Family are up to more macabre antics in this sequel. This time around, Gomez Addams (Raul Julia) and his wife, Morticia (Anjelica Huston), are celebrating the arrival of a baby boy. But siblings Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) are none too happy about the new addition, and try their best to eliminate the infant. When nanny Debbie Jelinsky (Joan Cusack) appears to keep the kids in line, her presence leads to an unexpected treacherous twist.

Almost thirty years after their first on screen appearance, and more than fifty after their creation, The Addams Family proved itself still relevant in the 1990s. Addams Family Values specifically though, might be my favourite part of the whole franchise.

I remember watching this movie at the cinemas and remembering how much better than the original film it was. The first film had a muddled story but it created the groundwork for the family dynamic, which is the heart and soul of the film series. The film failed terribly at the box office, essentially killing the franchise dead in its tracks, I couldn't understand the reason for ignoring this film. Looking back it is still a superior film, the humour is right on target and the plot has improved so much, the first film had a weak premise with superb casting. This film should of been the stepping stone for at two more sequels and I think fans needed to show up in bigger support. In a world where comic books movies recycle plots and villains, it's interesting to see films that had oddball characters and inventive characters. I will revisit Waynes World 2 which died a similar death and came out around the same time. My only regret watching this film is knowing that there are no more films in the series. This could've of been a great series if it was given a chance, a giant missed opportunity. 13-08-2017.

A far funnier affair than the first one. Without the burden of trying to establish the world and pay homage to the original series the filmmakers could do whatever they wanted . . . Joan Cusack is such a great villain here.

The strange and bizarre antics of the Addams Family continue in the off-the-wall sequel Addams Family Values. The story follows a black widow who poses as the Addams' new nanny and attempts to seduce Fester; meanwhile Wednesday and Pugsley are sent off to summer camp. Unfortunately, the comedy isn't as edgy and morose as the first film. And, the cast give rather underwhelming performances; except for Christina Ricci, who really steps up and carries the film. In fact, it's the B-story that delivers most of the laughs as Wednesday gets into a rivalry with one of her fellow camp mates and rebels against her counsels. Though it's not as good as the original, Addams Family Values is still hilariously entertaining.
