Ted B 3.0 stars; This film was made (in 1937) during the "gangster" period in Hollywood. File it in the category of a "prison movie". What I liked about this film was that it was basically a morality play—"crime doesn't pay." The protagonist is a mob boss racketeer who was sent to prison by a whistleblower who had turned him in as revenge for the death of his brother. He accepts his fate and is determined to serve out his time so he can come back and make a home for his daughter. However, he is set up for another crime (murder of the whistleblower) while serving his sentence. Fortunately, his significant other is waiting patiently for him. She is able to get his lawyer on the case and they come running to his rescue. Not a really deep movie, but it teaches repentance.
