Brian Costello Common Sense Media Documentaries like these always feel the need to be playing "rousing" and "inspirational" background music on an endless loop, as if the story itself can't move the audience. Rated: 3/5 Dec 21, 2022 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times As tense and nail-biting as any modern thriller, “AIMSB” is also a “truth is stranger than fiction” type of story that, if pitched to a studio, would be deemed as impossible to believe; hence, the word “miracle” in the title. Vic R Title: A Disappointing Tale of Desperation: All In: St. Bernard's Documentary All In: St. Bernard's fell far below my expectations. This film attempts to portray the struggles of a tiny, century-old Catholic school in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, but sadly fails to capture the audience's attention or deliver a compelling narrative. From the outset, the documentary's lackluster execution leaves much to be desired. The pacing is uneven, with long stretches of mundane footage that fail to engage the viewer. The filmmakers seemingly prioritize quantity over quality, as they bombard the audience with a plethora of campaigns and events without delving deep into any of them. Furthermore, the film's attempt to intertwine a "magical football season" with the school's financial woes feels forced and contrived. The supposed connection between the two storylines is tenuous at best, leaving viewers questioning the relevance and coherence of the narrative structure. Regrettably, the documentary fails to provide any substantial insight or analysis into the challenges faced by St. Bernard's. The filmmakers miss the opportunity to explore the broader issues affecting small educational institutions, such as declining enrollment and financial insolvency. Instead, we are left with a superficial portrayal that barely scratches the surface. Despite a potentially compelling premise, All In: St. Bernard's lacks the depth and substance necessary to captivate its audience. The documentary's inability to provide meaningful context or engaging storytelling ultimately renders it a forgettable and disappointing viewing experience. I would not recommend this film to anyone seeking a thought-provoking or enlightening documentary about the struggles of educational institutions.
