Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express A few scenes are well done, especially the one which features [Sharman] Joshi and [Naseruddin] Shah. The second half is scattered. Rated: 2/5 Apr 5, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member With Naseeruddin Shah leading the cast one has great expectations from an art house/indie flick ... ! This one had a great concept (child crime, juvenile prison ... !) and started off well also ... The problem started when these kids 'suddenly' overtook the jail!! From there the story just went haywire from typical RGV type movie, to a hodge-podge of sappiness from a teacher wanting to change the world with education, to one of two kids suddenly finding love (ugh!!) to give the story a 'fair' closure .... Good concept and cast really and truely wasted!!! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Another insight into the mafia world that exists within the great metropolitan cities.. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member The first half of Allah Ke Banday is gripping but somewhere in the middle (after the interval) the story just loses it and becomes preachy, sentimental, and convoluted. The film portrays the coming of age of two boys in 'Bhulbhulaya' a slum in Mumbai. The boys are ambitious, aggressive, violent, have no scruples and want to rule the world -- unfortunately, with all the buildup of their tough exterior and street smartness, they are portrayed making rookie mistakes and end up in a juvenile jail where the usual shock-value rape and torture takes place. They persevere, overcome and come back stronger, get rid of the corrupt warden (Naseeruddin Shah, brilliant but totally under utilised) and come back to their slums with plans to become kingpins there (Sharman Joshi -- OK acting, Faruk Kabir - a bit over the top hamming). For this, they form a gang which consists mostly of children. From here, the story loses its edginess and becomes confused...there is a schoolmaster who tries to stop the duo all guns a-blazing but suddenly seems to run out of steam (What is Atul Kulkarni doing in this movie? Total waste of the talented actor), there is a love interest, there is Sharman Joshi's sudden guilt trip, and it all ends in a mess...but not in a good believable way. I remember, I had loved the promos of this movie and thought that it would be awesome. It could have been, but it is not. Such wasted potential....The director tried to do a City of Men and just failed... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member a really nice movie... the 1st half of the movie was very gripping and acting by the the kids and naseeruddin was top notch.. sharman joshi was very likeable and faruk kabir as the debut director was good but needs to poilish his acting.. overall not a bad movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
