Wise beyond his years, Morace's Tommi is a knockout performance of resilience and acceptance of his parents' foibles and by the final scene of this assured debut feature there is unlikely to be a dry eye in the house. Go to Full Review

10/19/2021 Very vivid childhood perspective. Everytime I rewatch this I feel young again. Absolutely one of my favorate movie all these years. See more 08/01/2012 Beautifully crafted movie.... See more 08/15/2011 A very emotional family drama with great performances, especially by the child actor is remarkably genuine. See more 02/24/2011 A tender and beautiful Italian family drama centered around a little boy called Tommi, who is played magnificently by Alessandro Morace. Tommi is coping with his family: Mother that comes & goes whenever she finds a wealthy lover, Father who is doing his best at being a single parent, but still is incapable of holding his job longer due to his rash temper and a sister who is experiencing her sexuality. At school it is no better, with love problems that he has. Almost always alone, Tommi finally finds a best friend when a young boy moves into his apartment block. Through him, he i witnesses another type of family - a wealthy one, where mother and father are kind and good-tempered and their overall life is going on without much worries. So different from Tommi's own dysfunctional family. Dysfunctional though it is, love is not missing. It is still present in abundance but mixed with so many other emotions that everything gets pretty messed up for Tommi. " Along the Ridge" is English version of the Italian title and it alludes to Tommi's habit of walking along the edge of the roof of his apartment building. The Italian title "Anche libero va bene" (the Striker is good too) is more subtle and becomes understandable only at the very end of the film. The film is the directorial debut of Kim Rossi Stuart, a well-known Italian actor, who also plays the father in the film. He as a father and young Morace in his role of Tommi are the most responsible for many layers of emotions that this films evokes.
