DanTheMan 2 Takashi Yamazaki's lavish screen adaptation of Ryƍhei Saigan's immensely popular manga, Always Sunset on Third Street is unashamedly sentimental, a glossy, big-budgeted soap opera remaining captivating in its swoon of admiration for the period it is portraying. It's not intended as a serious examination of the tribulations faced by post-war Japan, though hints are thrown in now and again, instead, it focuses on the daily lives of its larger-than-life characters. Although it sometimes feels episodic, the cornerstone of this movie's success lies in its charming essence, lovable performances and overall warmth, sweeping the viewer along with its energy, tugging at the heartstrings every step of the way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review Audience Member It is really touching. Feels realistic about Japanese people's daily life after WWII. It is normal, funny, yet really touching and meaningful story. It tells us, life with family and love can always be precious, even the most plain one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Excessively sentimental Japanese post-war drama with a modern touch of digital production. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best movies I have watched. It's a good drama with comedy and emotional scenes which makes it suitable to watch with family. A good story line and filming which presents a transforming era of Japan after world war. The director and actors have done it so well. The boy realizes the magic mother's love and care and the orphan boy refusing to leave the person who took care of him are among the best touching scenes I have ever watched in movies. Thanks a lot to the makers of it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member One of many people's favorites. Very suitable for family time watching together. FEEL GOOOOOOOOD... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The backdrop of this film is Tokyo in the late 1950s, much before I was born. I watched it, just because it got a Japan Academy Award, but it was really worth watching. I was impressed by the familiar, but dramatic life of common people. Japan was dramatically changing in those days and people were excited at the emergence of TV, electric refrigerator, and electric washer. Their life may look simple to us, but it was surely exciting to them. If you are Japanese, this is a must-watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
