Audience Member A restraint and, in parts, absurdly satirical tale of homosexuality in early 1970s Americana. Directed with a deftly gentle hand, the film's tone barely rises a crescendo and yet the impact of its message - of secrets, disclosure and shame - isn't diminished at all. Great character acting by several characters (woeful in others) with a special mention to beany-wearing clam boy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A solid treatment of an interesting and underexplored theme - the plight of a young person who discovers that one of their parents is gay. Despite being well written and well performed, the decision to make the film a period piece, 1973 in this case, is an odd one, and diminishes the impact the film could have delivered. Sure, a more conservative society raises the stakes, but it also distances us from the drama. Still, the dialogue can't be faulted, nor can the game cast. Federico Furzan Movie-Blogger.com After a few changes, we get Wild About Harry and not 'American Primitive'. Seems like a good change for such an important and sincere film. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 26, 2021 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation Maybe gay "bad old closeted days" nostalgia could become a thing, even though it hadn't in 2009, when "Wild About Harry" was an "American Primitive" that no one was buying.
