Tod Harrison Williams directs with a sense of humour that never takes cheap shots but isn't overtly reverential to the author, and the playful tone helps make the film entertaining as well as offbeat. Go to Full Review

C. W @CRW123 Dec 30 This is an excellent movie that touches the soul, capturing both the pain and resilience of the human condition through the perspective of a good-natured yet troubled man and main character, Jeff. The movie speaks to the inner child existing in all of us; it depicts, skillfully, how the pressures and demands of our society interact with the inner child and how one's good-natured disposition is often not enough to survive or thrive. Conversely, the movie skillfully depicts the coldness and malaise of adulthood. Jeff's character is nice, friendly, innocent, and unsuccessful, while the world around him is cold, apathetic, and getting by. Jeff's mother is very similar to him in temperament but was able to marry into comfort (an option unavailable for Jeff as a man). It's all very gloomy with sarcastic styled humor. Yet, despite all of this, Jeff still finds his way without losing what makes him so lovable to begin with (his genuine inner child and humanity). On Netflix it's called American Loser. See more Martin B Jan 24 Twenty minutes in you realize how bad this is. Stick with it thinking it has to improve yet gets worse. The mystery is why Gretchen Mol’s character would see anything in the guy and why would Gretchen Mol do the movie in the first place. What’s funny about a guy with learning disabilities? How do you make a move the essentially makes fun of a guy that clearly has enormous deficits that can’t even clean a room nor has the slightest clue on how to navigate life because of his disability. Shame on anyone connected with this travesty that set movie making back. It's weird without being cute & quirky &/or even remotely funny...in the end, I gave it an hour & that was more than sufficiently masochistic for my taste, before giving up on it altogether & switching it off! So, do yourself a favour & save yourself the hour-plus of torture that I experienced by avoiding this one altogether...the worst film that I've watched all year, & it's now September of 2024! Sean William Scott usually never disappoints and this is one of the the examples See more 03/20/2019 clever, funny, edgy, sexy. We're all losers and luckily it can be funny to watch.
