Wendy Ide Observer (UK) One of the more muted films of Corsini's career, a picture that quilts its fierce political heart with a woolly layer of female martyrdom. Rated: 4/5 Jan 6, 2019 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times There are incidental efforts to offer social-historical comment on France in turbulent times. But it is the characterisation that really holds the attention. Rated: 4/5 Jan 4, 2019 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) It later takes a decidedly darker turn...but the emotional power is consistently undercut by the sense that we, as an audience, are being roundly manipulated. Rated: 3/5 Jan 4, 2019 Full Review Alex Heeney Seventh Row Un amour impossible is a tough watch, but oh, what a beautiful film. The period costumes are not only gorgeous but the textures are rendered with such precision you feel like you could reach out and touch them. Jan 13, 2020 Full Review Sergi Sánchez Fotogramas The movie is too conventional for its own good, even though the love triangle that it portrays is full of sharp edges that harm. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Jul 16, 2019 Full Review Jordi Costa El Pais (Spain) The way in which Virginie Efira holds the erosion of time on the screen becomes the great reservoir of genius under the braid of unfortunate narrative decisions. Cem Y An unattractive story that is so harsh you do not want to believe it but also you do not believe it since some characters seem rather more dull then they should be. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review isla s I thought this was quite a touching film, depicting a mostly long distance relationship (consisting primarily of written letter contact) and the upset caused by the lack of stability in the fathers presence. Its maybe a little predictable but I couldn't help but feel sorry for the mother (played by Virginie Efira). The use of music is quite well done - it's not too brash or over the top and there's some nice cinematography present too. Its a thoughtful film, which I'd happily recommend, even though its a cheesy film, its reasonably good and an enjoyable watch overall, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Flawless. But avoid it if you're looking for feel-good or escapism. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review nefasto r Beside the foreseeable dark turn, I did not enjoy too much this film, mostly because I could not stand any of the characters. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a bittersweet, but beautiful story of the troubled relationship between a mother and daughter. Despite facing adversity, social injustice and personal hardships, the relationship endures. Ultimately, love and perseverance get them through the difficulties, letting them move on to a time when they can begin to rekindle the profound mutial affection that they once shared.
