One of the more muted films of Corsini's career, a picture that quilts its fierce political heart with a woolly layer of female martyrdom. Go to Full Review

There are incidental efforts to offer social-historical comment on France in turbulent times. But it is the characterisation that really holds the attention. Go to Full Review

It later takes a decidedly darker turn...but the emotional power is consistently undercut by the sense that we, as an audience, are being roundly manipulated. Go to Full Review

Un amour impossible is a tough watch, but oh, what a beautiful film. The period costumes are not only gorgeous but the textures are rendered with such precision you feel like you could reach out and touch them. Go to Full Review

The movie is too conventional for its own good, even though the love triangle that it portrays is full of sharp edges that harm. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The way in which Virginie Efira holds the erosion of time on the screen becomes the great reservoir of genius under the braid of unfortunate narrative decisions. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Alain E @AlainE 1d I don’t see much love as being the central thread of this story, but rather the chronicle of the life of an evil man. Philippe, a seductive young man, scion of a wealthy family, has a sexual relationship with Rachel, a young Jewish woman, taking precautions. One time, with her permission, they have complete intercourse. When she gets pregnant, he tells her that marrying her is out of the question. After a little girl is born they stop communicating. They reconnect when the girl reaches adolescence and then, thankfully off screen, he starts abusing her sexually. Mother and daughter drift apart, only to reconnect at the end of the movie. Philippe dies from Alzheimer. All this is related well with good acting and photography. I am not sure though what is the point of this story. I assume it is established that fathers should not rape their daughters (or anyone else). See more isla s @RT89656869 09/03/2022 I thought this was quite a touching film, depicting a mostly long distance relationship (consisting primarily of written letter contact) and the upset caused by the lack of stability in the fathers presence. Its maybe a little predictable but I couldn't help but feel sorry for the mother (played by Virginie Efira). The use of music is quite well done - it's not too brash or over the top and there's some nice cinematography present too. Its a thoughtful film, which I'd happily recommend, even though its a cheesy film, its reasonably good and an enjoyable watch overall, yes. See more 07/04/2021 Flawless. But avoid it if you're looking for feel-good or escapism. See more 06/09/2019 This is a bittersweet, but beautiful story of the troubled relationship between a mother and daughter. Despite facing adversity, social injustice and personal hardships, the relationship endures. Ultimately, love and perseverance get them through the difficulties, letting them move on to a time when they can begin to rekindle the profound mutial affection that they once shared.
