Audience Member A stunning performance by a very young Charlotte Gainsbourg. For all those who enjoy contemporary French films, the hypnotic debut of Gainsbourg makes this film required viewing. And it's not only her performance that's remarkable. The entire film is compelling and wise, insightfully exploring different kinds of love: between friends, between parents and children, in a first, off-balance romance. All in a beautiful summery world that is distinctively French. The film effectively communicates the depth and awkwardness of discovering love - as experienced by the fierce and tender Charlotte (the character). Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I watch all types of movies for the entertainment value. However most teen movies do not entertain. Maybe I'm just too old to think so...however L'effrontee with Charlotte Gainsbourg confirmed my suspicion. That she is an excellant actress! I first saw her in another French movie at closer to her current age. In L'effrontee she is about 14 and plays her part as if she wasn't acting at all. I think the actress is very much like Shirley Temple though for this era. She plays the part of a frustrated teen, not happy with anything such as family, school, friends or lack of, and life in her town. She finds hope of something different in a fifteen year old pianist whom she idolizes. The pianist happens to come to her small town and thats where the movie really gets going. Great movie for family members from 13 to adult. It is a coming-of-age story that just doesn't quite work. The main character is a little too naive and it tries to hard to be funny (but, I will say that I never expected Charlotte Gainsbourg to say the line, "Your p***y stinks"). Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member <3 When a Movie describes the 80's in a Bewichting Masterpiece of Art than thiz! Felt like lived that Summer by myself! Class Differences, Herbephilia, Adorbale Youth, Senseful Soundtrack, Realisitic Camera Work, that's French Expressionism in it's Finalization!
