Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) A film that feels so far ahead of its time that of course it takes a reevaluation by audiences thirty years later for it to find the recognition it deservers. Audience Member Geena Davis is Angie co-starring the late James Gandolfini and Stephen Rea Based on the book I Am Angie by Arwa Wing and directed by Martha Coolidge She grew up in 1972 Brooklyn and had no mother But she grows up with her best friend Tina She and Vinnie have also been dating for years Things change though when Angie gets pregnant but she ultimately decides not to get married Everyone is flabbergasted by this and Angie ends up falling for a man Noel It's the story of one woman finding her independence Davis gives an extraordinary performance as this woman who doesn't want to end up like her own mother and life throws so many curves at her This manages to elevate past some typical melodrama being it's one woman's journey of self discovery Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review steve d Davis is really good but the film is not. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Angie is the story of a young woman who finds herself in trouble (although you'll feel like the one in trouble for having to watch this thing) when she gets pregnant. She decides to dump the boyfriend who got her pregnant and keep the baby. She then takes up with a lawyer. The cast is a who's who of talent including Geena Davis, James Gandolfini and Stephen Rea, but they are all wasted here. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review william s Big hearted movie with little payoff. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Sluggish star vehicle for Geena Davis, who gives it her all here but tries too hard to make a bad movie decent. Notable for an in-shape early James Gandolfini with a full head of hair! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Holy Christ, this sucked.
