Antiviral is a none-too-subtle comment on tabloid-generated fandom. But it's undeniably intriguing and loaded with Cronenbergian atmosphere. Go to Full Review

How sick can fans of a celebrity get? Very, answers "Antiviral." Imagine fan fetish culture metastasizing. A pox on consumers and capitalists alike, Brandon Cronenberg sneers. Go to Full Review

Cronenberg’s indictment of celebrity worship might be delivered with all the grace and stealth of a chainsaw cutting through tin cans, but it’s difficult not to agree that as a culture we’re doubtless heading somewhere similarly dire and disgusting. Go to Full Review

Cronenberg doesn't know what to do with the material about celebrity culture and pharmaceutical conspiracies, leaving everything on a sanitized, leaden surface that slowly drains away like blood drained from an injection. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

[Brandon Croneberg's] approach is appropriately intimate and sensuous, physical yet disconnected, and his mix of visual restraint, visual elegance, and conceptual complexity make him someone to watch for. Go to Full Review

Gabriel T @GabrielFagundes 1d It isn't as polished as the later Brendon Cronenberg movies. I could see potential in it, but it is just the first movie, so it wouldn't be perfect. I found it irritating to see people glorifying celebrity, and it destroyed my experience. It's also her to follow the story, and the concept is quite far-fetched; despite the critics, it delivers being noble. I think "Possessor," from the same director, which is really similar in its tone, is a good example of how good this movie could have been See more Wayne K 2d Brandon Cronenberg will likely live forever in his fathers’ very long shadow, but he’s carved out quite a niche for himself with smart, visually stunning and conceptually fascinating movies. Antiviral has some of his hallmarks, but overall it’s a film I found too cold and uninvolving to really get into. I enjoy how it dissects the theme of celebrity worship and the ridiculous levels people will go to be close to their favourite stars, but there’s so little levity in the script or the performances that it becomes more of a chore to get through than anything else. It has the faint whiff of a film that’s too proud of itself, and after a certain point you know what point it’s getting across, and the ending is more flat than shocking, surprising or cathartic. A well-assembled film, but one that left me feeling nothing at all. See more Kalissa H. @kali_416 Nov 14 Decent but slow at times. Unique. See more Vaughn R Sep 28 Tonight I watched this one.
