Radhika Menon Decider With a simple premise, Anuja offers a bright narrative in a short run time. Apr 21, 2025 Full Review Tamma Moksha The Hindu The open ending complimented the director’s homage to storytelling and made the audience feel a part of the film. However, as the credits roll...it becomes evident that the film has an air of corporate marketing attached to it... Feb 27, 2025 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media Anuja is a slender short film that takes great advantage of the charm and presence of two actors, two girls actually living the orphaned lives of the characters they play. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Prairie Miller WBAI Radio ANUJA - A tale of survival touching on charity, class, mythmaking and mass consciousness. Feb 13, 2025 Full Review Juan Pablo Russo EscribiendoCine ...the 22-minute film not only constructs a fictional story, but also reflects the reality of millions of children in India and other parts of the world. av 8 Has it got a good message? Yeah, kind of. Does it move me to act upon it? Not really. The movie is powerful for a 23-minute runtime, but it is not powerful enough to stir me. It is rather minimal and pretty in its own little way, but nothing honestly stood out to me about the work. It ends posing a dilemma–a rather huge one at that–but the rest of it? Bland. At least to me it was. The acting is pretty fine. The characters have some depth. The screenplay is quite intelligent, to which the shots do sufficient justice. It wouldn't be a "10/10 I recommend," but one could give it a chance. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/25 Full Review James G A truly beautiful film of two young girls finding joy and love while living in a very challenging environment. The movie brings you right into the streets of Deli and into the lives of the two main characters. A wonderful film - moving and heart warming! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review David F A short, sweet story about two girls working in a factory for clothing, dreaming of a better life and hustling to make it a reality. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Sue S Touching film about the bond between two sisters set against the horrors of child labour. For me... once you become emotionally invested in the characters and story, I would have liked an ending. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/15/25 Full Review SkyRo P "Anuja" is an Oscar-nominated short film that sheds light on the harsh realities faced by children and women trapped in the world of sweatshops. Although set in a different country, its themes resonate globally, highlighting the ongoing struggles related to labor exploitation. The direction is commendable, and the performances are strong, effectively conveying the film's message within its concise 22-minute runtime. While the film doesn't delve too deeply into every aspect due to its short length, it successfully captures the essential moments and emotions needed to impact the viewer. If the creators ever chose to expand this story into a full-length feature, they could certainly do so by building on the existing concept. However, they would need to develop a more intricate plot to explore the depth of the characters and their circumstances. Overall, "Anuja" serves its purpose well, leaving a lasting impression on its audience. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/08/25 Full Review Dallas H I liked how the story started and continued for most of its tale. But I felt robbed that the ending was just cut short in an ambiguously vague way. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Read all reviews
