A group of Calcutta city slickers, including the well-off Asim (Soumitra Chatterjee), the meek Sanjoy (Subhendu Chatterjee) and the brutish Hari (Samit Bhanja), head out for a weekend in the wilderness. Before long, however, the friends find themselves neglecting nature in favor of hard drinking and hitting on the nearby tribeswomen. But as the men spend more time with the local people, they begin to realize that the social standings that mean so much to them hold no importance in the wild.

Audience Member Ok, superficially it is a Satyajit Ray remake of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. That's the comedy part of it, but there is infinitely more. It is not his best movie, but I'll watch it again. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It is a directorial masterpiece. It weaves together different aspects of life (some funny, some not so funny) in an effortless way. Like a typical Ray film, it is intellectually superior to most films of its time and encourages the audience to think. It shows the various faces of society and how we, a civilized race, behave when we get out of the city and into the wilderness. It is perhaps the best Bengali film ever made, and that makes this film one of those movies you have to watch before you die, regardless of which country you're from, which language you speak, or what kind of films you like. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member another winner from director Ray. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member my most favourite ray muv Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A cool, modern, Indian new-wave film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Rating: 3.7/5. One of the least flawed films of Satyajit Ray. It had terrific performances by the whole cast. The cinematography is beautiful! I really loved the memory game sequence. The downfall being the ending for me. I loved it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
