Critics Consensus

Asteroid City is unlikely to win Wes Anderson many new converts, but those who respond to his signature style will find this a return to immaculately arranged form.

Audience Says

Asteroid City is classic Wes Anderson -- which may or may not be a compliment, depending on how you feel about his other films.

Christina Newland iNews.co.uk This is a film full of confectionary flourishes, but it centres around grief, and in its peculiar manner it takes on the pains of existence in a beautifully melancholic way. Rated: 4/5 Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Udita Jhunjhunwala Scroll.in Colourful and imaginative Wes Anderson whimsy. Jun 24, 2024 Full Review David Stratton The Australian The film is, for the most part, a delight. I would never miss a Wes Anderson movie, and I encourage anyone looking for something offbeat and original to go and see Asteroid City. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 14, 2023 Full Review Tanzim Pardiwalla Filmfare Revolving around an astronomy convention in a desert town, the film unleashes a symmetrical retro-futuristic drama that’s as good as it is good-looking. Sep 20, 2024 Full Review Clotilde Chinnici Loud and Clear Reviews While Asteroid City successfully delivers a witty comedy, it does not manage to reach the level and complexities of other Wes Anderson films. Is it an enjoyable film regardless? Very much so. But is it Wes Anderson’s best? Perhaps not this time. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 15, 2024 Full Review Joe George Sojourners With its over-saturated pastel desert landscapes and impeccably blocked compositions, Asteroid City foregrounds inauthenticity. Rated: 4.5/5 Jul 20, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Luciano Asteroid City was one of the more “obscure” Wes Anderson films I have ever seen. While the actors, filmography, and scenery is all great, I think the movie is bland in story and composition. The storyline isn’t great and for me, doesn’t really match much with the story I was expecting. Personally, I give this film a 4/10. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/23 Full Review C very unusual. a lot of fun Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/23 Full Review Drake It's always a treat to get to spend a couple hours in consuming like candy yet another Wes Anderson creation. The bold color palette, the sets and miniatures (even stop-motion), all shot in thoughtful framing, the ensemble cast of familiar faces putting on idiosyncratic performances befitting the deadpan lines, escapist tales in which all sorts of entertainment can happen—in which people fall in love with each other left and right!—but without any horrifying stakes. This is Hollywood at its best—the self-conscious drama, whether Oscar-baiting or attempting to be merely serious enough to enter the canon, is better for novels or art films, although Hollywood is affiliated with several auteurs who provide this other side of the Janus greatly enough too. This time, we're at a crossroads of Technicolor Westerns & Space Age optimism, ultra Americana, still delicious to look at and listen to and yet in its contemporary writing so much more engaging than any of those '50s movies were—although, inevitably, this screenplay gets away from itself a bit in the denouement. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Caleb D Wes Anderson continues to build on and improve his methods and style. Beautiful film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review George True Wes Anderson film with a star packed cast Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Tiana Marie L Love his work, but this was really great!
