Asteroid City was one of the more “obscure” Wes Anderson films I have ever seen. While the actors, filmography, and scenery is all great, I think the movie is bland in story and composition. The storyline isn’t great and for me, doesn’t really match much with the story I was expecting. Personally, I give this film a 4/10.

It's always a treat to get to spend a couple hours in consuming like candy yet another Wes Anderson creation. The bold color palette, the sets and miniatures (even stop-motion), all shot in thoughtful framing, the ensemble cast of familiar faces putting on idiosyncratic performances befitting the deadpan lines, escapist tales in which all sorts of entertainment can happen—in which people fall in love with each other left and right!—but without any horrifying stakes. This is Hollywood at its best—the self-conscious drama, whether Oscar-baiting or attempting to be merely serious enough to enter the canon, is better for novels or art films, although Hollywood is affiliated with several auteurs who provide this other side of the Janus greatly enough too. This time, we're at a crossroads of Technicolor Westerns & Space Age optimism, ultra Americana, still delicious to look at and listen to and yet in its contemporary writing so much more engaging than any of those '50s movies were—although, inevitably, this screenplay gets away from itself a bit in the denouement.

The film is, for the most part, a delight. I would never miss a Wes Anderson movie, and I encourage anyone looking for something offbeat and original to go and see Asteroid City.
