Delving deep into snuff territory, August Underground falls onto shock as a crutch to scare the audience, and such is the fate of a disturbing film, usually leaves you groaning instead. It was depraved. It was a cold, realistic, apathetic look into what felt like an actual duo of murderers. They had nothing to say, no point to make, no platform to justify their sick and twisted actions. Watching August Underground is as close as you can get to a casually shot snuff film. They aren't boogeymen, they aren't powerful monsters. The two men here are just regular, everyday assholes with a camera. They are your neighbors, your friends, your coworkers. I never felt like I was watching a film. More like a tape I should be turning over to the FBI. Watch at your own risk, but know that this is unlike anything else you've seen, and that makes it incredible it its own right.
